Senator Kevin Bacon - Senate District 3

Senator Kevin Bacon is currently serving his second term in the Ohio Senate after being re-elected to the position in 2014. Prior to joining the Senate, he served two terms in the Ohio House of Representatives. He represents a portion of Franklin County. Senator Bacon’s first priority is to ensure the Buckeye State is a place where businesses can thrive and Ohioans can find well-paying jobs and invest back into their communities.

Senator Bacon’s experience and leadership has led him to be named Chairman of the Senate Civil Justice Committee for the 131st General Assembly. He will also serve as Vice-Chair of the Insurance Committee and as a member of other key panels such as the Criminal Justice Committee, Public Utilities Committee, Financial Institutions Committee, and Transportation, Commerce and Labor Committee.

During his tenure in the Ohio General Assembly, Senator Bacon has earned recognition for his hard work, especially on issues designed to improve the lives of children and individuals with special needs. He earned the Autism Society of Ohio’s Legislator of the Year Award (2007), the ARC of Ohio Freshman Legislator of the Year Award (2008), the Association of County Boards of MRDD Legislator of the Year Award (2008) and the Ohio Academy of Pediatrics’ Legislator of the Year Award (2008).

More recently, Senator Bacon has been honored with the School Choice Ohio’s Leadership Award (2011), the Governor’s Council on People with Disabilities’ Legislator of the Year (2011), and the Legislator of the Year (2012) by AMVETS Department of Ohio. For his commitment to sound financial policies, Bacon has been named both a Watchdog of the Treasury and a Defender of Liberty.

In addition to his work at the Statehouse, Senator Bacon is a practicing attorney in Central Ohio, specializing in the areas of special needs estate planning, estate planning, small business and real estate. He previously served as a Blendon Township Trustee, as an enforcement attorney for the Ohio Department of Commerce and a prosecutor for the Lancaster City Attorney’s office.

A resident of the Village of Minerva Park, Senator Bacon has also been active in the Central Ohio community through a number of worthy organizations, including the Prevent Blindness Ohio, United Way of Central Ohio, Dublin-Worthington Rotary, the Ohio Bar Association, the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood as well as the Westerville, New Albany, Gahanna and Reynoldsburg chambers of commerce. He is also a former Capital Law School Alumni Board member.

Senator Bacon received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Miami University and his law degree from Capital Law School, where he served as student body president. He is the proud father of three daughters – Rebecca, Emma and Kathryn.
