STATEHOUSE -

State Senator Kevin Bacon (R–Minerva Park) yesterday received the Legislator of the Year award from the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies (NAMIC). Bacon received this award for his efforts on Senate Bill 140 which modernized Ohio’s insurance laws.

“I am honored and humbled to be recognized as a Legislator of the Year, and I view it as reaffirmation that what we are doing here in Ohio is working,” said Bacon. “Ohio’s insurance laws were outdated and hindering economic growth, but thanks to the help of several organizations, including NAMIC, we were able to modernize the law to help everyone. I would like to thank NAMIC for working with me on this legislation and for selecting me for this honor.”

Senate Bill 140, which Senator Bacon sponsored, became law earlier this month and enacted sweeping reforms to Ohio’s insurance industry by bolstering consumer protections, freeing up capital for investment and stabilizing rates. The law also further permits the use of electronic documents for insurance purposes, making it easier for consumers and companies to conduct business.
