Columbus -
State Senator Kevin Bacon (R-Minerva Park) announced today he is introducing  a bill which would include areas of specialty on the state's licensing website, allowing  professionals such as doctors, dentists and physical therapists to make more accurate referrals  and letting the public more easily find the appropriate individual to meet their needs.

Currently, Ohio maintains a website that permits licensed professionals to renew and update  information regarding their license, and also includes a section that permits any visitor to view  the status of a license registered on the website. However, it does not contain any specialty  information regarding the medical professional, making it difficult to search for specific licensed  professionals.

"We want to make it easier for professionals and patients to find the best physician for their  needs," Bacon said. "This change will eliminate a lot of confusion and bureaucracy and increase  access to proper care for the citizens of Ohio."

Under Bacon's proposal, the corresponding state board or commission with licensing authority  over a particular profession would determine the additional specialty information needed, which  would then be incorporated into the drop-down boxes currently available on the state website.

Bacon's bill will be formally introduced in the coming days.
