Senator Kevin Bacon and colleagues congratulate Dean Dr. Patrick M. Lloyd on the 125th anniversary of the Ohio State University College of Dentistry

The Ohio Senate today recognized the Ohio State University College of Dentistry on the 125th anniversary of its founding.

State Senators Kevin Bacon (R-Minerva Park) and Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) presented a resolution honoring the college's innovative contributions to the field of dentistry. Since its founding in 1890, the college has educated 11,000 alumni that have made historic advancements in dental materials, tools and techniques.

"The College of Dentistry has made immeasurable contributions to the state of Ohio in the field of oral health," said Hughes. "Their college faculty educate more than 60% of Ohio's dentists, and we are all grateful for their dedication and commitment to excellence."

The college encourages volunteerism through its Oral Health Improvement Outreach (O.H.I.O) project, which secures grant funding for fourth-year dental students to spend 50 days providing dental care in community clinics around the state. As part of the O.H.I.O project, the college also operates a mobile dental clinic to provide basic dental care and education for 2,700 children and at-risk patients every year.

"Today we honor not just the tremendous achievements in research and scientific advancement that the college has made—we also pay tribute to its continued engagement in the community," added Bacon.
