Columbus -
State Senator Kevin Bacon (R - Minerva Park) recently touted the Ohio Chapter  of the American Academy of Pediatrics' (Ohio AAP) success in establishing an official "Wear  Your Bike Helmet to Work or School Day" for the State of Ohio.  The first ever observance will  occur on Wednesday, September 21.

"The Ohio AAP's commitment to education and advocacy never goes unnoticed," said Bacon.  "Their message and outreach efforts continue to save lives, while also encouraging people of all  ages to hop on their bikes and ride."

Senator Bacon will be spending part of Wednesday at Granby Elementary School's 'Bike  Rodeo' event. The legislator believes that this day holds a particular influence on young people  across the state.

"Teaching kids to ride responsibly will only help them down the road, and I look forward to  helping in this effort to educate."

Numerous studies show that riders can reduce their risk of head trauma by 85 percent by  regularly wearing a helmet.  In 2010, 51,000 people were injured after not taking the necessary  safety precautions.  Statistics such as these have elevated the advocacy measures taken by the  Ohio AAP and similar groups.
