COLUMBUS -

As the holiday weekend approaches and summer draws to a close, I want to wish you a safe and enjoyable weekend with family and friends! Labor Day was first celebrated back in the 1800’s, and since then, Ohio has come a long way. With 245,000 private sector jobs created in Ohio since 2011, we are headed in the right direction. In light of the upcoming holiday, I’d like to draw your attention to a bill that I was a primary sponsor of during this General Assembly. Senate Bill 1 created the OhioMeansJobs Workforce Development Revolving Loan Program, which assists with job growth and advancement through training and retraining of Ohio’s workforce. This bill focuses on building mutually advantageous relationships between businesses and higher education institutions, with a special emphasis on the energy sector.

I also encourage you, the citizens of the 20th Senate District, to recognize and celebrate this first week in September, which is Ohio Coal Miners Week. During the 129th General Assembly, I sponsored House Bill 207, which designated the first week in September as “Ohio Coal Miners Week” in honor of Ohioans who have worked and continue to work in the coal industry, an industry that contributes significantly to the well-being of Ohio’s economy and energy landscape.

Please enjoy a safe and fun holiday weekend!
