COLUMBUS - State Senator Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville) today announced the release of state capital funds for upgrades to the Campus Center building at Zane State College, located in Zanesville.

Members of the Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of $53,000 to Zane State for upgrades to the lighting and climate control systems in the Campus Center building, which houses the college's Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy programs. The improvements are expected to help reduce overall energy costs for the college.

"I am proud to support investments in area colleges and universities," Balderson said. "We are grateful for our local partners at Zane State who played an important role in identifying this priority project."

Co-sponsored by Senator Balderson, the original appropriation was approved as part of the Ohio Capital Budget, which invested $650 million for the construction, repair and renovation of educational facilities across Ohio. Facility upgrades at Zane State are expected to help reduce overall energy costs for the college.

Investing in Ohio's Parks

The Ohio Controlling Board also approved the release of funds for facility improvements at Burr Oak State Park and Hocking Hills State Park.

"Clean, safe and accessible parks help support local tourism and provide recreational opportunities for families and outdoor enthusiasts," Balderson said.

Originally built in 1967, the main lodge at Burr Oak State Park is need of repairs. The building features 38 guest rooms for park visitors. On Monday, the state approved $120,000 for upgrades to electrical and HVAC systems in the aging lodge, helping to ensure a pleasant visitor experience for many years to come.

A crown jewel of Ohio's park system, Hocking Hills State Park often draws more visitors than available parking can safely accommodate. The state has approved $368,000 to make room for 48 new parking spaces and to renovate stairs, handrails and pavement near Old Man’s Cave Visitor Center. The expansion and upgrade will help promote use of the park, and reduce safety hazards for motorists and pedestrians.
