COLUMBUS - State Senator Troy Balderson (R-Zanesville) announced the release of state capital funds this week for upgrades at Hocking Hills State Park.

Members of the Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of $585,000 for improvements at Hocking Hills State Park, which will include preliminary construction on a new visitor center near Old Man’s Cave. The new visitor center will be better suited to handle the growing number of park visitors.

"Attracting millions of guests to the Hocking Hills area each year, the park's new visitor center will be better suited to meet the demands of one of Ohio's premier outdoor destinations," said Balderson. “The new trails recently added to the park will surely increase the numbers of visitors each year.”

Two new hiking trails were unveiled to the public on Monday during an official ribbon cutting ceremony. The combined 2.5 mile loop features Old Man’s Cave and a swinging bridge.

Ohio's recent Capital Budget, co-sponsored by Senator Balderson, invested $275 million for the maintenance and preservation of Ohio’s dams, parks, trails, waterways and wildlife. Additional funds were released to the Hocking Hills State Park this week for restroom renovations, which will be completed in September 2017.
