Columbus -
The Ohio House of Representatives today approved a plan to designate July 9 of every year as "Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Day" in Ohio. Sponsored by State Senator Troy Balderson (R - Zanesville), Senate Bill 247 draws attention to a condition that affects nearly 119,000 Ohio residents. The measure was greatly influenced by Zanesville native, Micah Jones, who has been living with conditions of Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) since being struck by a drunk driver on July 9, 2004. In the years since the incident, Micah founded BrainSong: The Micah Jones Foundation to assist those who have been affected by TBI. "The lives of Micah and all those living with TBI warrant our awareness and advocacy," Balderson said. "I wish to thank my colleagues in the legislature for joining this cause and shining a light on a very important issue to so many Ohio families." The bill now awaits the signature of Governor John Kasich for enactment into law. More information about Micah's efforts can be found at http://www.brainsong.org/.
