COLUMBUS–Senator Troy Balderson (R­–Zanesville) today recognized Deborah Withem as 2013-2014 Teacher of the Year with the Department of Rehabilitative Correction.
 
The Senate of the 130th General Assembly of Ohio is proud to honor Deborah for receiving the prestigious distinction by the Correctional Education Association of Ohio. Deborah Withem has been recognized for her exceptional skill, commitment, and professionalism for which she can be extraordinarily proud.
 
Deborah, a literacy teacher at the Southeastern Correctional Complex Hilltop School since 2004, educates individuals ranging from 26 to 96 years of age. She is a member of several school committees and the SCC/ Hocking Black History & Hispanic Heritage Planning Committees, as well as being team member of the regional hostage negotiation team. Deborah has similarly participated in numerous statewide workshops and trainings and has served on the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correctional Short Term Offender Program Planning and Offender Led Programming committees.
 
“I’m pleased to recognize Deborah for her achievement and share her optimistic motto ‘It’s never too old to learn.’” Said Balderson.
 
Senator Balderson was accompanied by Senator Manning (R–North Ridgeville) who recognized the Department of Rehabilitative Correction parole office of the year.
