State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) today honored Miami County Parole Officer Sharlynn Key for being named the 2015 Parole Officer of the Year by the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

"Sharlynn is someone who leads with her actions and work ethic," said Beagle. "She is a role model for new parole officers in Miami County and throughout Ohio by embodying the balance, compassion and strength that is required of a truly exceptional parole officer."

A 1996 graduate of Wilberforce University, Officer Key began her career as a parole officer in June of 2000 with the Dayton office where she served until she was promoted to her current position in April of 2013. As Senior Parole Officer for the Troy Unit 1, she also coordinates the DRC's internship program for the Dayton West region.

Key demonstrates her compassion by referring many offenders to programs such as "Thinking for a Change" and "Second Chance Wednesday" which provide meaningful assistance for struggling offenders.

One colleague, in their letter of support for the nomination, referred to Sharlynn Key as "the glue that holds her unit together."

On behalf of his colleagues, Senator Beagle presented Key with a resolution on the floor of the Ohio Senate honoring her for being named the 2015 Parole Officer of the Year.
