Columbus -
State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) today introduced legislation to eliminate overlapping public library taxing districts and give public libraries more tools to operate efficiently in today's economic environment. "I was surprised to learn there are numerous areas in Ohio where citizens are actually forced to pay taxes for two different public library districts," Beagle said. "It is important to eliminate this double-taxation phenomenon and provide some relief to those taxpayers that find themselves in this unfair situation." Senate Bill 321 will also provide public libraries with a new set of tools to help them meet the challenges of today's fiscal environment including allowing a municipal, township, or association library to become a school district library, allowing public libraries to carry unencumbered funds forward by a simple majority vote of the board, and increasing the competetive bidding threshold for public libraries from $25,000 to $50,000.
Senator Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio's 5th Senate District, which includes Miami County and portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties.
