Columbus -
Today the City of Piqua was granted $2,000,000 from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund to assist in the demolition and remediation efforts of the former Piqua Memorial Hospital property. The funds were released upon approval of the Ohio Controlling Board. The multi-million dollar release will go toward the removal of asbestos and waste, as well as the demolition of existing buildings. The City of Piqua has already recommended that the redevelopment of the site should be consistent with residential uses. There has been talk of the site being the potential location for a future school. "I'm always encouraged to see these funds used to clean up sites like the former Piqua Memorial Hospital," Beagle said. "When unused properties are redeveloped it's a win for our economy, the environment, and the health of our communities." In addition to funding from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund, The City, Hospelda, LLC, and Upper Valley Medical Center are expected to contribute over $1 million in matching funds for remediation activities.
Senator Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio's 5th Senate District, which includes Miami County and portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties.
