Columbus -
On Wednesday, September 21, Ohio will take part in its first official "Wear Your Bike Helmet to Work or School Day." The observance comes as the Ohio Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (Ohio AAP) and similar advocacy groups continue to advance public awareness regarding head and brain injuries.

Studies have shown that regular helmet use can reduce the risk of head trauma by 85 percent. Last year, 51,000 people were injured by not wearing a helmet at the time of their accident. Regular helmet usage is recommended for cyclists, skateboarders, roller skaters and others in order to prevent cases of life-threatening head trauma.

State Senator Bill Beagle (R - Tipp City) applauded the efforts of Ohio AAP in shedding greater light on this issue.

"No matter the age or circumstance, everybody is susceptible to these types of injury," said Beagle. "Simple precautions can prevent life-changing traumas and avoid families from having to endure the suffering of seeing a loved one in pain. I urge all those who take part in activities like biking and skating to do so safely and responsibly."
Senator Bill Beagle serves the people of Ohio's 5th Senate District, which includes Miami County and portions of Montgomery and Darke Counties.
