Columbus -
State Senator Bill Beagle (R-Tipp City) issued the following statement today regarding the Ohio Senate's passage of House Bill 153, the state's operating budget. "I knew when taking my oath in January that the months ahead would prove important for Ohio's future. With that said, I applaud the effort displayed by my colleagues over the past month in successfully closing a multi-billion budget shortfall without resorting to a single tax increase that would further saddle Ohioans with the burden of growing government." "A $5.4 billion reduction in spending over the next two years aims at returning Ohio to a place of fiscal responsibility, while the elimination of the state estate tax should help in keeping more small businesses in Ohio. In addition, citizens throughout our state will be able to control more of what they earn due to the restoration of the final phase-in of the 21-percent income tax cut originally passed in 2005." "My colleagues and I also demonstrated our continued to commitment to education in that we've expanded school choice, created new accountability standards for our schools, and added new funding incentives to districts rated 'excellent' or 'excellent with distinction.'" "Again, I commend the work that has been done by my colleagues here in Columbus to restore accountability and sound governing to the budget process."
