Columbus –Today, Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) announced the state Controlling Board has released a total of $1,449,000.00 in funding for the University of Toledo (UT) Campus Mechanical System Improvements project. This funding will help the University achieve a 20% energy reduction mandate by replacing mechanical systems in campus buildings that have reached their maximum serviceable life expectancies.

“Making investments in improved energy efficiency is beneficial in so many ways,” said Senator Brown. “Upgrading or replacing the air handling units in these buildings will reduce maintenance costs, improve air quality and comfort and save on utility bills for the University.”

The scope of work includes replacing improperly functioning air dampers and controls as needed, in addition to replacing outdated insulation in the buildings. These improvements will help eliminate major temperature swings during seasonal changeovers, which lead to increased energy usage.

The buildings targeted for improvement are a mixture of classrooms and laboratories located on the university’s Main Campus and Health Sciences Campus, including: Bowman-Oddy Laboratories, Ritter Astrophysical Research Center, Health Education Center, McMaster Hall, Wolfe Hall, and the Health Science Building.
