Columbus – State Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) announced today that the state Controlling Board has released over $2.5 million in funding for Third Frontier Research and Development projects in Northwest Ohio.

Funding will go to project development to improve the efficiency of transparent photovoltaic glass that can be used in automobiles and buildings, work to develop a micro processing chip that can detect infections, and developing a new cleaning and disinfecting agent.

“These projects show that the University of Toledo and local businesses continue to be on the cutting edge of research and development in Ohio and throughout the region,” said Senator Brown. “Providing funds and support for the outstanding work that they do creates economic activity, innovation and jobs- all of which are fantastic assets in our communities.”

The Controlling Board also renewed funding for the Innovation Platform Program which connects Northwest Ohio businesses, their product growth and creation needs with research and development resources at the University of Toledo.
