Columbus – State Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) announced today the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission has approved funding through the Cultural Facilities Grant Program for the Ohio Theatre – Toledo Community Project.

The project received a $201,000 appropriation through Ohio’s Capital Budget (HB 497) with Senator Brown’s support. The United North Corporation, which owns and operates the Ohio Theatre – Toledo, will use the funds for equipment and furnishings for the facility as a part of its second phase of renovations. The project is expected to be completed by December 2015.

“This grant will help rejuvenate a Toledo landmark,” said Senator Brown. “I am very happy to see this investment in a project that will help revitalize a neighborhood and create a focal point for the arts as well as for increased economic activity.”

The Ohio Theatre – Toledo was originally built in 1921 and is Toledo’s last operating historic neighborhood theatre.  Under the direction of the United North Corporation, the theatre provides access to the arts for Toledo residents by offering social and artistic programing while serving as a catalyst for renewed local business activity.
