Columbus—Yesterday in the Senate Transportation Committee, State Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) provided sponsor testimony for Senate Bill 255; a bill that will allow Ohio motorists to provide proof of financial responsibility via a smart phone or other mobile electronic device.

“SB 255 is a simple, common sense way to modernize Ohio law through the use of technology,” said Senator Brown.

The proposed law would not eliminate the printed insurance identification cards currently in use, but would give Ohio drivers the option of providing the same information through an electronic device.

“As with most cases where a paperless option is available, this will provide additional convenience and cost saving opportunities for insurance companies and motorists,” Senator Brown added.

Since 2011, 31 states have passed laws similar to SB 255 including Pennsylvania, Kentucky and Indiana.
