Senator Brown (Center) accepts the "2015 Legislative Champion for Ohio's Children" Award from Voices for Ohio's Children CEO Sandy Oxley (Left) and CareSource Representative Toni Bigby (Right) at the Ohio Statehouse.

Columbus – Today, Senator Edna Brown (D-Toledo) was recognized as a ‘2015 Legislative Champion for Ohio’s Children’ by Voices for Ohio’s Children during their annual Advocacy Day at the Ohio Statehouse.

“I am honored to receive this award,” said Senator Brown. “As an elected official, I have always considered it a privilege to be able to work to better the lives of children in my district and throughout the state.”

Voices for Ohio’s Children cited Senator Brown’s work during the 130th General Assembly on Senate Bill 11, the Childhood Nutrition Bill, as well as her career long focus on bettering the lives of Ohio’s children, as reasons for this recognition.

Many provisions in Senate Bill 11 were incorporated into statewide regulations, which allowed easier access to fresh fruits and vegetables for children participating in meal programs.

“I hope the awards given out today will help focus more attention on issues that impact children in Ohio every day,” Senator Brown said. “Voices for Ohio’s Children does tremendous work in that regard and I look forward to continuing to collaborate with them in the future.”

Voices for Ohio’s Children is a non-partisan statewide, multi-issue child advocacy organization that works to ensure the needs of Ohio’s 3 million children are prioritized at the local, state and federal levels.
