Burke Announces Local Fire Departments To Receive Grants
Funds Will Assist With Training And Equipment Upgrades

State Senator Dave Burke (R- Marysville) announced today that fire departments in Crawford and Sandusky counties have been awarded Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grants. The grants provide fire departments and fire associations that serve communities with populations under 10,000 with matching federal funds for equipment upgrades and assistance with organizational and training costs. "Ohio's rural fire departments provide critical safety services to our smaller communities, and it is imperative they are able to perform their duties as safely and efficiently as possible," Burke said. "These grants will help our firefighters obtain the up-to-date equipment and training needed to help keep both them and the people they serve safe." Fire departments selected to receive grants from the 26th Ohio Senate District include: -Ballville Township Volunteer Fire Department - $4,500 -New Washington Fire Department - $1,100 -Woodville Township Fire Department - $1,300 In all, 63 fire departments and fire associations across the state are to receive VFA Grants in 2011. Since it was established in 1978, more than 1,100 rural Ohio fire departments have received assistance from the VFA grant program, which is administered by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Forestry.
Senator Burke represents the 26th Ohio Senate District, which encompasses all of Crawford, Logan, Marion, Sandusky, Union and Wyandot counties as well as portions of Ottawa and Seneca counties. For more information, please visit www.ohiosenate.gov/dave-burke.
