Columbus -
State Senator Dave Burke (R- Marysville) announced today he has introduced Senate Bill 222, which would require the Ohio Department of Transportation to display the POW/MIA flag at each rest area along interstate highways and the Ohio Turnpike. Rest areas currently display the U.S. flag and the Ohio state flag. Burke noted that the Ohio Revised Code currently encourages the POW/MIA flag to be flown over each public building in Ohio, but does not require it. "I have passed a number of rest areas that do not display the POW/MIA flag as I travel throughout my district and to and from the Statehouse," Burke said. "Our nation's missing soldiers and their families have paid a heavy price for their service to our country, and I feel it is important for them - and for all the citizens traveling on our highways and turnpike - to know that we recognize and honor the sacrifice these veterans have made for our freedoms." Senate Bill 222 will now be assigned to a standing Senate committee for further consideration.
Senator Burke represents the 26th Ohio Senate District, which encompasses all of Crawford, Logan, Marion, Sandusky, Union and Wyandot counties as well as portions of Ottawa and Seneca counties. For more information, please visit
