COLUMBUS — State Sen. Dave Burke, R–Marysville, recently was named the Legislator of the Year by the Ohio Association of Election Officials.

Burke represents the 26th District in the Ohio Senate, which encompasses Sandusky and Seneca counties and Crawford, Marion, Morrow, Union and Wyandot counties.

“Ours is a government of the people, run by the people thats sole purpose is work for the people,” Burke said. “Since the founding of our nation, there has been no more sacred right than to engage the electoral process and have a hand in deciding how the government will operate and who will lead it.”

The award is given annually to one Republican and one Democrat who have demonstrated a high interest in election policy, have had significant influence on elections legislation and have worked closely with local election officials to craft meaningful election reforms.

“As an elected official, I understand the value of voting and also feel an intense obligation to protect the people’s right to vote and make the electoral process work in the most efficient way possible,” Burke said. “I’m grateful to Ohio’s election officials for choosing me to receive this award.”

Burke accepted the award at the group’s annual conference in Columbus. About 530 local election officials participated in this year’s conference.

Burke serves as the chairman of the State Government Oversight and Reform Committee. Learn more about him at www.OhioSenate.gov/Burke.
