Columbus -
It is with sincere gratitude and enthusiasm that I pursue this new opportunity to serve the people of Northeast Ohio. Though new to the legislature, I have been calling Geauga County home for over thirty years, along with my wife, Meg, and our two daughters. In having long maintained an active role in our community, I have a keen sense of the issues that are most important to you and our region. As I begin my role in public life, I hope to reflect the values that you all hold dear and to be a facilitator for all of the many constituencies that make up the 18th Senate District. I am honored to be joining such good company at the Statehouse and I am eager to assist them in bringing Ohio back to the economic forefront. With still more than a year to go in the 129th General Assembly, the work of my new colleagues is already resonating throughout our state. This year has marked the creation of numerous initiatives to grow Ohio's workforce and spark its statewide economy. JobsOhio, the new public-private partnership focused on encouraging business development in Ohio, has taken shape and promises to invigorate our business landscape. Ohio has also adopted a new process for reviewing the regulations that inhibit our ability to create long-lasting jobs throughout the state. The Common Sense Initiative (CSI Ohio) now helps entrepreneurs and business owners by eliminating the duplicative and wasteful regulations that often stand in the way of growth and success. Over the summer, legislators approved a new two-year budget bill centered on recovery, relief, and reform for Ohio and its residents. The spending plan was highlighted by the elimination of an $8 billion shortfall that was threatening Ohio's future prosperity. It also eased the level of tax burden on our families by restoring the final phase of a 21-percent income tax cut worth more than $800 million and eliminated the estate tax that had been driving family-owned businesses out of Ohio for more than 40 years. Accomplishments like these have forged a strong foundation for rebuilding our state and the work must continue. I look forward to drawing on my professional and civic experiences to be an added voice in the conversation and to advocate on your behalf. In doing so, I am calling upon you. I have long held that it is the people who know best, and I want your ideas. Serving as your state senator is an important responsibility and I look forward to hearing from you. MEDIA ADVISORY: Eklund Attends National Public Safety Summit In Washington D.C.

“The time has come for public safety and corrections policy to be driven more by data analysis than by guesswork and suppositions,” said Senator Eklund. “Part of that analysis must factor in the very real impacts that behavioral health issues and the current drug crisis are having on the system."
