COLUMBUS -

State Senator John Eklund (R-Munson Township) praised the August employment report released by the Department of Jobs and Family Services on Friday, which shows that Ohio's unemployment has fallen to its lowest rate since 2001.

In August, Ohio gained 16,500 new private sector jobs and unemployment dropped to 4.7 percent, below the national average of 5.1 percent. The state's rate of unemployment is at a 14-year low.

"Our efforts to improve Ohio's business climate are paying off, but there is still more work to be done,” said Eklund.

The largest job growth occurred in the construction (+2,700); professional business and services (+5,700); trade transport and utilities (+5,300); and leisure and hospitality (+2,900) industries.
