COLUMBUS -

Ohio Senator Bob Hackett (R-London) today announced the release of state funds for security upgrades at the London and Madison Correctional facilities in Madison County, Ohio.

“Providing adequate safety and security for prison employees and the surrounding community is a top priority for Ohio's Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections,” said Hackett. “Addressing potential vulnerabilities at each facility enhances the security of our community and prison employees.”

The Ohio Controlling Board approved the release of more than $150,000 for London Correctional Institution (LoCI) and nearly $110,000 for Madison Correctional Institution (MaCI) for security improvements.

Security improvements at LoCI will include upgrades to the perimeter fence, originally installed nearly 20 years ago. The existing fence base is deteriorating with rust and has been repaired on several occasions, but repairs are no longer effective. LoCI opened in 1924 and houses approximately 2,300 inmates.

MaCI will add 1,300 feet of interior fence around the buildings to control inmate access and bring the facility into compliance with new ODRC security standards. MaCI opened in 1987 and houses nearly 2,500 inmates.
