COLUMBUS—Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof recently announced his decision to appoint State Senator Bob Hackett (R-London) as chairman of the Senate Finance Sub Committee on Health and Medicaid and as vice chairman of the Insurance and Financial Institutions Committee.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to help lead several important policy initiatives as legislation is considered in these Senate committees," said Hackett. "Together, my colleagues and I look forward to addressing issues that will help provide opportunities for all Ohio families."

The Finance Sub Committee on Health and Medicaid will play an instrumental role in the development of Ohio's main operating budget over the next several months. In his new role, Chairman Hackett and members of his sub committee will hear testimony and develop funding recommendations and report back to the full Finance Committee.

Senator Hackett is well versed in insurance and banking matters, having served as Chairman of the Insurance Committee during his time in the House of Representatives. Prior to his service in the public sector, he worked for more than 30 years in the private sector as a small business owner in the financial services industry. In 2016, the National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies named Senator Hackett as its Legislator of the Year for his leadership in reforming Ohio's insurance laws.

In addition to his committee leadership posts, Hackett will also serve as a member of the Senate's Agriculture Committee; Health, Human Services and Medicaid Committee; Local Government, Public Safety and Veterans Affairs Committee; and the Ways and Means Committee.

Senator Hackett was appointed to the Ohio Senate in February 2016 and was later elected to a four-year term to represent the residents of Clark, Madison and Greene counties.
