Senators Hackett and Hughes welcome Wittenberg University's women's softball players to the Statehouse to honor them for winning the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference softball tournament
COLUMBUS -

State Senators Bob Hackett (R-London) and Jim Hughes (R-Columbus) welcomed Wittenberg University’s women’s softball players to the Statehouse today to honor them for winning the 2016 North Coast Athletic Conference softball tournament.

“This exceptional team is only the second team in Wittenberg's history to secure a conference championship” said Hackett. “Wittenberg and the entire Springfield community should be very proud of all they have accomplished both as athletes and as scholars. We wish these young ladies continued success in all their future endeavors."

“The coaches, trainers and players are to be commended for all their hard work and dedication they put into this season,” said Senator Hughes, whose daughter is the team's pitcher. “The lessons learned, the hurdles they overcame, and challenges met will serve them well for the rest of their life."

Coaches Laura Matthews and Nikki Miller accompanied the softball team to accept a resolution on behalf of the entire Senate, recognizing their 32-9 season.
