COLUMBUS—Every minute counts when a life is on the line. This week, State Senator Bob Hackett (R-London) was tapped to serve on a national task force charged with taking a closer look at the rising cost of air ambulance services.

"Air transport services play an important, potentially life-saving, role in emergency care," said Senator Hackett. "When a life is on the line, these services significantly reduce delays in getting patients the treatment they so desperately need."

Access to air ambulance services could mean the difference between life and death for many Ohioans living in rural communities, where proximity to trauma centers can cause delays in emergency treatment.

Rising out-of-network air ambulance costs across the nation have raised concerns among state lawmakers. Hackett will work alongside other members of the National Conference of Insurance Legislators' to craft policies aimed at lowering the sky-high costs for consumers. Many patients have been caught off guard, resulting in debts far exceeding their ability to pay.
