Senators Obhof (left) and Hottinger (right) present Anne Guggisberg with a resolution honoring Guggisberg Cheese for winning grand champion in the Swiss cheese competition at the Ohio State Fair's Sale of Champions

State Senators Jay Hottinger (R-Newark) and Larry Obhof (R-Medina) presented a resolution during the Sale of Champions honoring Anne Guggisberg of Guggisberg Cheese for winning top honors in the Swiss cheese competition at the Ohio State Fair.

"As the nation's number one producer of Swiss cheese, we can take pride in knowing that Ohio has the best in both the quantity and quality of our products thanks to the high standards set forth by companies like Guggisberg," said Hottinger.

Guggisberg Cheese of Millersburg placed first in the Rineless Swiss category and sold for a record-setting $26,000 during the Ohio State Fair's Sale of Champions.

"We are proud of this family's hard work and success which serves as a model for family-owned small businesses across Ohio," said Obhof.

Earlier this year, the Ohio Senate honored Guggisberg Cheese for winning the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest with a 200-pound Swiss cheese wheel at the biennial U.S. Championship Cheese Contest held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Guggisberg Cheese was founded in 1950 after Alfred Guggisberg immigrated to the United States from Switzerland. The company – locally-owned and operated in Holmes County – invented its award-winning Baby Swiss in the 1960s. The company has grown and now sells its products across the United States and Europe.
