Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R–Celina) today appointed Senator Jay Hottinger (R–Newark) to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Insurance.
The Senate Insurance Committee is tasked with providing legislative oversight for Ohio's extensive insurance industry. The committee also makes recommendations to the full senate for the advice and consent of certain governor’s appointments.
“Ohio is a leader in insurance, thanks to numerous companies competing with each other to create a fair regulatory market for insurers,” said Sen. Hottinger. “The insurance industry is a large and diverse segment of our economy, and I look forward to ensuring the insurance marketplace keeps working for Ohio’s consumers.”

Hottinger was also named to the Ohio Retirement Study Council and the Board of Directors of Ohio Deferred Compensation.

An experienced leader and veteran legislator, Hottinger has been named to several leadership posts throughout his career including having served as the Chairman of the powerful House Finance Committee and as Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Insurance, Commerce and Labor.
Senator Hottinger is a lifelong resident of Newark, Ohio where he graduated from Newark High School before receiving a degree in political science and public administration from Capital University.
Chairman Hottinger will convene the committee in the coming weeks.
