As State Senator for Ohio’s 31st district, I represent over 300,000 Ohioans. It is my job to listen to the views of my constituents and to assist them in overcoming the obstacles they face. The best way to do this, I believe, is to connect citizens to state resources that are available for this exact reason.

The beliefs of those whom I represent are the most important influences on the votes I cast in the Senate. Earlier this month, a woman from the district called my office expressing her support for a new piece of legislation that aims to limit the power of the federal government. Her call led me to review this particular piece of legislation. After considering both her opinion and the benefits of the bill, I decided to co-sponsor it. Take this instance as a testament to the importance of phone calls and letters from citizens. I weigh this outreach very seriously in my decision making and put forth a consistent effort to effectively represent my constituents.

My staff is trained to recommend state resources that are available to Ohioans. When you encounter difficulty resolving an issue, please don’t hesitate to call me and ask for help. Recently, a family member of one of our soldiers brought to my attention the distressing veteran suicide rates. He wanted to know how his state was addressing the issue. After some research, I was able to follow-up with him and bring to his attention a multi-agency program in Ohio that monitors and helps veterans with mental health issues.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you find any reason to do so. As citizens of the great state of Ohio, you have the right to fulfill your highest potential. It is my honor to serve as your Senator in order to help you do so.

I can be reached via the Ohio Senate website, Facebook, or Twitter. My staff and I will be sure to follow up as soon as we are able.

Senator Hottinger represents the 31st Ohio Senate district, which encompasses all or part of Coshocton, Holmes, Licking, Perry and Tuscarawas counties.
