Columbus -
Today, State Senator Kris Jordan (R- Powell) introduced legislation that would allow the leasing of state lands for oil and natural gas exploration. The legislation, which is a companion to Representative John Adams' HB 133, would create an Oil and Gas Leasing Board to oversee the leasing of state lands to energy companies. During the 128th General Assembly, then-Representative Jordan introduced a similar measure, HB 107. "With the instability in the Middle East and the recent spike in gas prices, it is now more important than ever that we begin to develop our resources here at home rather than continuing to depend on foreign nations to help fulfill our domestic energy needs," Jordan said. "This program will help Ohio, not only in the development of our own oil and natural gas resources, but in helping to balance our state budget by providing a potential revenue stream without raising taxes and by creating well-paying jobs in Ohio that cannot be exported." Jordan continued, "Ohio should not rely on despots and madmen for its energy future, not while the potential to drill here still exists. This legislation is a step toward energy independence, and that independence begins at home by first taking advantage of the resources we currently have."
Jordan represents Ohio's 19th Senate District, which includes Delaware, Knox, Morrow, Richland, and part of Ashland counties. Prior to serving in the Senate, he served as a State Representative and as a Delaware County Commissioner. He is a proven advocate for spending restraint, lower taxes, and family values. He lives in Powell with his wife, Melissa.
