State Senator Frank LaRose (R-Copley Township) today announced the passage of legislation providing additional funds for the construction and maintenance of Ohio’s job-sustaining highway system.

“This legislation provides necessary resources for essential infrastructure projects while fulfilling the legislature's constitutional duty to oversee the appropriations process,” said LaRose. "These projects strengthen the roadways and transportation networks that support our growing economy and Ohio's job-creators"

Senate Bill 315 provides a total of nearly $700 million toward transportation related projects, $450 million of which will go to essential construction projects in Summit, Cuyahoga and Mahoning Counties to bolster northeast Ohio's pivotal infrastructure.

As Chairman of the Senate Transportation, Commerce and Labor Committee, Senator LaRose oversaw the process to combine Ohio's responsible fiscal management and creative solutions to boost turnpike bonding revenue with the recent addition of federal dollars as part of the federal highway bill. The legislation accelerates the start date of the projects to begin this spring.

Officials at the Ohio Department of Transportation estimate that the legislation could save upwards of $11 million in taxpayer dollars if these projects begin prior to 2017.

For the first time in more than 10 years, the federal highway budget bill passed Congress and will provide additional dollars for Ohio infrastructure, bringing stability to the financing of major highway construction projects in Ohio and providing increased flexibility to fund these important projects.
