COLUMBUS -

State Senator Frank LaRose (R-Copley) announced today an investment in Wayne County by the J.M. Smucker Co. that will bring 400 new jobs to Orrville.

Following the approval of the plan by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, J.M. Smucker Co. announced that the investment would amount to $40 million in annual payroll and an agreement to create the 400 new jobs in Orrville over the next twenty years.

"This investment is an exciting opportunity to bring high-quality jobs to Wayne County," said LaRose. "This is a great example of the job growth we seek by ensuring that Ohio is a favorable place to do business. This investment will further add to J.M. Smucker Co.'s heritage as a great local business."

J.M. Smucker Co. recently acquired the California-based Big Heart Pet Brands, a national leader in pet foods and pet snacks. The company plans to invest $31 million into a research and development facility in Orrville to equip the new operation. The J.M. Smucker Co. will also repurpose an existing facility to make room for future job growth.

The plan will now be heard by the Orrville Board of Education and the Orrville City Council prior to making the final decision. The plan is supported by the Wayne Economic Development Council.

Ohio is competing with several states for the proposed project, including Pennsylvania, Kansas and California.
