STATEHOUSE -

Ohio Senate President Keith Faber last week appointed State Senator Frank LaRose to serve as the Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on State and Local Government.

The committee is primarily charged with improving laws impacting both local municipalities as well as the operations of state government.

LaRose said, "I am honored to have the opportunity to lead this committee. Ensuring efficient and effective state government operations is among my top priorities. The citizens we represent expect and deserve state government which is accountable, efficient and effective. As Chair of this committee, I also look forward to collaborating with our local government partners who deliver the essential services upon which our citizens rely every day.  Working together we can take steps to modernize and innovate while also creating more effective working relationships between state and local partners."

In addition to his chairmanship, LaRose will serve as a member of the powerful Senate Finance Committee and the Senate Transportation, Commerce and Labor Committee. Both panels review, revise and approve the governor’s biennial budget proposals.

A decorated veteran of the United States Army, LaRose served in both the 101stAirborne and in the U.S. Special Forces as a Green Beret. During his decade in uniform, in which he was stationed throughout the globe, Senator LaRose received numerous commendations and honors, including the Bronze Star.

During his tenure in the Senate, he has been named to several leadership posts including Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Public Safety, Local Government, and Veterans Affairs. During the past legislative session, LaRose also served as the Vice Chairman of the Joint Committee on Agency Rule Review and as Vice Chairman of the Senate Public Utilities Committee.

Chairman LaRose will convene the committee in the coming weeks.

LaRose added, "I look forward to working with Vice Chair Hottinger, Senator Thomas, the highest ranking minority member of the committee, and the other distinguished members of the State and Local Government Committee."
