Columbus -
State Senator Peggy Lehner (R- Kettering) today announced she has been named chair of the Senate Education Committee for the 129th General Assembly. As chair of the Education Committee, Lehner will examine Governor Kasich's education plan as well as other policies and proposals affecting primary, secondary and higher education. She was also appointed to several other Senate committees, including the powerful Finance Committee and the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee. "Ensuring that all of Ohio's students have access to a high-quality education does more than simply prepare them for future success, it also provides a foundation for the continued growth of Ohio's economy, as a well-educated workforce encourages businesses to locate and create jobs in Ohio," Lehner said. Lehner will play a major role in the development of the state's two-year operating budget as a member of the Finance Committee, and the State and Local Government and Veterans Affairs Committee deals with all aspects of governance at the state and local level as well as issues pertaining to veterans. In addition, Lehner has also been assigned to the Highways and Transportation Committee, which examines transportation-related issues and oversees the state Transportation Budget, as well as the Judiciary-Criminal Justice Committee - which looks at bills seeking to keep Ohioans safe from crime. "I am excited to serve on each of these panels, as they will provide me with an opportunity to examine a broad range of topics that impact every Ohioan and affect our ability to revitalize the economy and get people working again," Lehner said. "I look forward to working with my colleagues and making sure that the concerns and opinions of the people of the 6th Senate District are heard as we debate the proposals that come before us."
