COLUMBUS—On Thursday, leaders from the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging surprised State Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) with an award honoring her efforts to combat malnutrition within Ohio's senior population.

"Senator Gayle Manning has been a strong advocate and voice in the fight against senior hunger," said Dr. E. Douglas Beach, CEO of the Western Reserve Area Agency on Aging. "Senator Manning's legislation will establish a Malnutrition Study Commission to study malnutrition in adults 60 years and older in Ohio."

Dr. Beach presented the Benjamin Rose Institute’s Katz Advocacy Award during the Area Agency on Aging's annual conference. Themed "Aging Well...Mind, Body, & Spirit," this year's conference brought together more than 400 professionals, providers, advocates, and volunteers representing various aging and disability organizations.

"I am truly honored to accept this award," said Manning. "The Area Agency on Aging has been an instrumental partner in our effort to address important quality of life concerns for Ohio's seniors."

Each year, the Benjamin Rose Institute Katz Advocacy Award recognizes an individual, organization or group for their exceptional efforts contributing to the advancement of public policy in support of independent living for older adults and persons with disabilities at the state or national levels.
