State Senator Gayle Manning (R–North Ridgeville) today announced the approval of $3,000,000 in funds to the Lorain County Community College Foundation (LCCCF) to develop the Northeast Ohio Innovation Pre-Seed Fund.  Manning also announced the approval of $221,977 in funds to Lorain County Community College (LCCC) through the Non-Credit Job Training Program to purchase equipment for its planned Center for Microelectronics Sensor Fabrication and Hybrid Board Assembly.
The Pre-Seed Fund Capitalization program, administered by the Development Services Agency, works to accelerate the growth of early-stage Ohio technology companies by providing funding to a number of new and existing, professionally managed pre-seed funds in Ohio. The pre-seed funds, in turn, fund the growth of promising early-stage technology companies.
“This investment in the Northeast Ohio Innovation Pre-Seed Fund is a testament to the unique collaboration of the businesses, local governments, and educators in our community as they work to support the vital technological endeavors driving Ohio’s economy forward,” said Manning.   
LCCCF will use the funds to invest in Northeast Ohio technology-based companies that are in the incubating phase of development, and will provide investment capital, enhanced management services, and business assistance that advance emerging companies through the early phases of commercialization.
The funds for LCCC’s center include equipment and construction modifications to create a “Class 10,000 Cleanroom,” which is a specially constructed scientific research lab characterized by a low level of environmental pollutants. The center will serve students in LCCC’s Micro-Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) major to prepare them with the skills necessary for a career in Mechatronics Technology.  Additionally, LCCC plans to hold quarterly incumbent worker training workshops that will enable hands-on training for local companies to utilize for their existing workforce.
“Our number one priority at the Statehouse is to get people back to work,” said Manning. “LCCC’s MEMS curriculum and incumbent workforce training greatly underscores this objective, providing an opportunity for our area employers to hire interns, take advantage of new training assets for their existing workers, and support program development.”
