State Senator Gayle Manning (R–North Ridgeville) today attended a check presentation in Lorain, announcing the award of $10,000 from AT&T to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lorain County to support their Be GREAT: Graduate (BGG) program.
BGG is designed to provide at-risk youth with academic, social and emotional support to ensure they will be successful in school and on track to graduate from high school with a plan for the future.
“In focusing on the many factors outside the classroom that influence student success, the Be GREAT: Graduate program provides students with the social and emotional support that is crucial for academic success,” said Manning.
Boys & Girls Club staff work in partnership with school teachers and administrators to identify at-risk 9th-12th grade students and pair them with adult mentors from the Boys & Girls Clubs.  The mentoring program focuses on reducing barriers to success outside the classroom, as well as connecting students with the academic resources they need to do well inside the classroom.
“I am thrilled that the Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County are being recognized for their tremendous contribution to the Lorain County community, and I thank AT&T for their investment in Ohio’s future leaders,” added Manning.
