Senator Gayle Manning presents a Senate Resolution to Mr. John Monteleone alongside Lorain City Schools Superintendent Dr. Jeff Graham

State Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) recognized Lorain's Washington Elementary school principal John Monteleone following his selection as one of the nation's most outstanding Latino school leaders.

Monteleone will serve as a fellow for the National Institute for Latino School Leaders, a program administered by the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest Hispanic advocacy organization in the U.S.

"The Lorain community, especially the students at Washington Elementary, are incredibly fortunate to have Mr. Monteleone's passion and expertise," said Manning. "Mr. Monteleone's continuous efforts on behalf of Latino students in Lorain will now be displayed nationwide and I am certain that he will gain valuable skills to bring back to all students in our community."

Fellows were chosen from seven states to undergo training to provide insight, highlight best practices and inform policies that impact Latino youth in the public school system.

Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the program will equip Monteleone to serve as a spokesperson for NCLR in addressing the most important education issues facing Latino youth today.
