State Senator Gayle Manning presents Senate Resolution to Elyria's Rosetta Shepherd

State Senator Gayle Manning (R-North Ridgeville) today honored Elyria High School senior Rosetta Shepherd as Ohio Youth of the Year by the Ohio-Michigan Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Shepherd was first chosen as the 2016 Boys and Girls Clubs of Lorain County Youth of the Year. The Ohio-Michigan chapter then chose her as Youth of the Year based on her academic excellence, leadership and committment to giving back to the community.

"Rosetta received high praise and recommendations from the teachers and mentors that she has had in her 10 years with the Boys and Girls Club and this speaks to her commitment and perseverance," said Manning. "We are very proud of her accomplishments in Lorain County and wish her all the best as she continues to impress at the regional competition."

Shepherd was recognized at the organization's regional competition earlier this year in Troy, Mich. She will travel to Chicago this summer for the opportunity to be named regional youth of the year and earn a spot in the national youth of the year competition.
