COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today announced the Ohio Senate gave unanimous approval to House Concurrent Resolution 4, which urges Congress and the U.S. Air Force to maintain the C-27J program at the 179th Airlift Wing in Mansfield. Obhof sponsored a similar resolution that was approved by the Ohio Senate earlier this month.

The Air Force is considering retiring or relocating the C-27J Spartan – an aircraft used to transport troops and supplies that has been used in missions throughout the globe. Such a move would result in the loss of 800 jobs in the Mansfield area.

“The C-27J program has assisted in military and humanitarian missions across the globe, and is an integral part of the Mansfield community,” Obhof said. “This resolution demonstrates our continued support for the men and women of the 179th Airlift Wing and our hope that federal officials consider alternative actions that will not result in the loss of hundreds of jobs in Richland County.”
