Senate President Larry Obhof joins a group of Ohio lawmakers for the ceremonial signing of legislation helping families impacted by autism.
COLUMBUS—This week, Ohio Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) joined several other legislators as Governor John Kasich held a special ceremonial signing for legislation that will bring autism insurance coverage to thousands of Ohio families.
"Improving autism screening and treatment options will open new opportunities for these children, helping them overcome some of the challenges they face," Obhof said.
The new law improves access to medical treatments, providing coverage for children under the age of 14 who have been diagnosed with autism. This includes behavioral health, and will help families who cannot afford treatment. Ohio is the 45th state to pass such a law improving access to autism screening and treatment options for children. Officially signed in January, the legislation took effect just last week.
The new law also requires the Superintendent of Insurance to conduct an actuarial study on the costs of health care mandates under Ohio law, with the goal of developing potential tax credits to offset any additional employer costs associated with those requirements.
