COLUMBUS -

This week, Ohio Senate President Keith Faber (R-Celina) appointed Senator Larry Obhof (R-Medina) to serve as the vice chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Rules and Reference.

The Rules and Reference Committee plays a key role in setting the legislative agenda for the Ohio Senate. The Committee assigns legislation to the Senate's various subject matter committees (such as Education, Criminal Justice, etc.). Once a bill is favorably reported by a subject matter committee, the Rules and Reference Committee determines if and when the bill is brought up for consideration by the full Senate.

“I look forward to working with my colleagues to ensure that legislation is given thorough consideration throughout the committee process," said Obhof.

The change follows Senator Obhof's selection in February to serve as Senate President Pro Tempore, the second highest leadership position in the Senate. He will continue serving on the Senate standing committees on Civil Justice, Financial Institutions, and Government Oversight and Reform, as well as the Finance Subcommittee on Corrections.

Kasich Signs Obhof's Bipartisan Corporate Law Reforms.

In other business, Governor John Kasich signed Senate Bill 181 into law today. The bill, jointly sponsored by Senator Obhof and Senator Joe Schiavoni (D-Boardman), improves Ohio's corporate law by eliminating ambiguities and defining the responsibilities of corporate officers. The bill also specifies that it is the policy of Ohio's LLC law to give maximum effect to the principle of "freedom of contract."

"This bipartisan legislation brings clarity to the corporate code and will help improve Ohio's business climate," said Obhof.
