COLUMBUS — State Senator Larry Obhof today presented members of the Ashland University women’s basketball team with a Senate resolution honoring them as the 2013 NCAA Division II Champions. The Eagles defeated Dowling College to win the championship – the first national title for the University in any team sport.

“This remarkable group of young women is proof that hard work and perseverance pay dividends – and the time and effort they put into their game will also have benefits off the court,” Obhof said. “This team has been an inspiration to each other and to the entire Ashland community, and I am proud to help recognize their accomplishments.”

The Eagles were ranked second in the nation this season and have won back-to-back GLIAC regular season and tournament championships and NCAA regional championships. The team also played in last year’s national title game.
