Senators Larry Obhof and Jay Hottinger present Richard Guggisberg and his daughter Ursula Guggisberg with a resolution honoring Guggisberg Cheese for winning the 2015 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest.

State Senator Larry Obhof (R-Medina) today joined colleagues from the Ohio Senate in presenting a resolution to Richard Guggisberg of Guggisberg Cheese for winning the top honors at the 2015 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest.

Guggisberg Cheese was founded in 1950, after Alfred Guggisberg immigrated to the United States from Switzerland. The company – locally-owned and operated in Holmes County – invented its award-winning Baby Swiss in the 1960s. The company has grown and now sells its products across the United States and Europe.

"I am pleased to recognize Guggisberg Cheese and the Guggisberg family,” Obhof said. “The story of their hard work and success is a model to small business owners and exemplifies the American Dream.”

Guggisberg Cheese won the 2015 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest with a 200-pound Swiss cheese wheel at the biennial U.S. Championship Cheese Contest held March 17 to 19 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The Millersburg-based cheese maker competed against more than 1,800 entries from 28 states for the championship title.

The U.S. Championship Cheese Contest, hosted by the Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association, is the largest technical evaluation of cheese, butter and yogurt in the country. More than 33,000 pounds of dairy products were entered into the contest this year.
