COLUMBUS - Senate President-Elect Larry Obhof (R-Medina) announced today the application process to fill an anticipated vacancy in Ohio’s 7th Senate District seat, encompassing all of Warren County as well as portions of Butler and Hamilton counties in southwest Ohio.

Senator Shannon Jones (R-Springboro) has notified Senate leadership that she intends to vacate the seat on January 3, 2017 to assume the office of county commissioner, to which she was elected on November 8, 2016.

The Senate Republican Caucus is responsible by law for appointing a temporary replacement to the seat. The appointee will serve for the remainder of the current term, ending in December 2018. The person appointed to the vacancy will stand for election on the 2018 ballot.

The Senate Republican Caucus will accept applications for the vacancy until 4 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016. Applications may include a resume, letters of recommendation and any other supporting material considered relevant to the applicant's qualifications. The applicant screening and selection process will take place on or before January 4. Applicants are expected to be available to meet in person with the screening committee.
