COLUMBUS - Senate President Larry Obhof (R-Medina) was named this week as a Fellow in the Aspen Institute's Rodel Public Leadership program.

The Rodel program brings together the nation’s most promising young political leaders to study the underlying values and principles of western democracy, the relationship between individuals and their community, and the responsibilities of public leadership. The program promotes the vision of a political system based on thoughtful and civil bipartisan dialogue and seeks to help America’s leaders achieve their fullest potential in public service.

"I'm very honored to have this opportunity," said Obhof. "I look forward to learning from influential thought leaders and engaging with leaders from across the country. At a time when divisions seem to grow each day, our ability to work constructively across the political aisle and alongside people with different viewpoints is critically important to preserving our democracy."

“These men and women represent the very best among the new generation of America’s political leadership,” former Congressman Mickey Edwards, the program’s director, said in announcing the new class. “They have each won the notice and praise of their constituents and their colleagues and have shown a dedication to public service that is an encouraging sign in a time of great challenge. There are now nearly 300 Rodel Fellows, at all levels of government, working to ensure that Americans receive thoughtful and responsive leadership. We are very proud to have these outstanding leaders join their ranks."

A complete listing of the 24 members of the 2017 class can be found here. For more information on the program, visit www.aspeninstitute.org/programs/rodel-fellowships-public-leadership/.
