Columbus -
State Senator Larry Obhof (R- Montville Township) issued the following statement today regarding the Ohio Senate's passage of House Bill 153, the state's operating budget: "The Senate passed a responsible budget that eliminates a multi-billion dollar shortfall without raising taxes on Ohio families. I believe we made significant improvements to the budget since it was first introduced, including adding more than $100 million in funding for our schools. "The Senate also made key investments in support services for Ohio's children, allocating funding to our network of children's hospitals that will enable them to obtain additional federal dollars in their efforts to provide quality health care services to children. We also included additional funding for adoption services, the Help Me Grow program and the Kinship Care program to assist family members who step in as primary caregivers when a parent is unable to care for a child. "We were able to accomplish this while at the same time reducing government spending and providing significant property tax relief. The downturn in the economy meant that we had many difficult decisions to make throughout this process, but I am confident that our proposal will help move Ohio in the right direction."
